INTRODUCTION
RESPONSIBILITY, BUILT IN – HOW WE OPERATE AS A FIRM
Responsible business at Womble Bond Dickinson is not a standalone programme or an annual exercise. It is embedded in how we operate as a firm; shaping decisions, behaviours and the way we work with our clients, colleagues and communities.
This report provides a transparent view of how we are putting that responsibility into practice: where we have made progress, how we are strengthening accountability, and how we are positioning the firm for the future.
Over the past year, our focus has been on turning commitment into sustained action. We have strengthened how responsible business is recognised and measured across the firm, reflecting the importance of impactful, consistent contribution rather than surface-level, one‑off activity.
Alongside this, we have created space for courageous conversations, recognising that meaningful progress on issues such as inclusion, sustainability and ethics requires openness, challenge and learning from our people and wider community.
We have also taken steps to align our approach with globally recognised frameworks. Becoming a signatory to the UN Global Compact reflects our commitment to internationally accepted principles on human rights, labour, the environment and anti‑corruption. Importantly, this alignment is practical rather than symbolic.
During the year, it has been brought to life through collaboration and knowledge sharing, including joining the UN Global Compact Network UK Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Working Group and participation in the Sustainable Development Goals Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals.
We are conscious that expectations around responsible business continue to evolve, and that organisations are increasingly expected to demonstrate how responsible practices contribute to long‑term value, resilience and trust.
At the same time, scrutiny is increasing, and in some areas, debate has become more polarised, particularly in relation to diversity, equity and inclusion, and climate action.
Our response is to remain focused on integrity, evidence and impact. This includes critically assessing our environmental ambitions, and submitting targets to the Science Based Targets initiative, to ensure our approach is transparent, responsible and credible.
We also continue to focus on creating inclusive environments, where all colleagues feel valued and able to contribute fully, leading to better thinking, better advice and stronger outcomes for our clients.
Responsible business is not static, and neither is our approach. The year ahead will focus on deepening impact, strengthening governance and continuing to integrate responsible practices into the core of our business.
This report reflects where we are today and the direction we are taking as we continue to evolve.
