Grief first aider training
In February 2025, the firm supported 13 colleagues to be trained in Grief First Aid (GFA). The purpose of these roles is to have colleagues equipped to help with loss, ensuring our people are heard, respected and supported.
Jade Hutchins-Ward, Onboarding Assurance Administrator and one of our GFAs, shares her insights.
What is the role of a Grief First Aider?
The role of a GFA is to provide listening and emotional support, provide guidance on available resources for further support, recognise signs of grief-related distress and offer timely support, and to show empathy and non-judgement. Our team understand that grief isn’t always about death, it can be about loss of independence, physical health, financial independence, or a relationship break down.
How does the firm support loss?
The firm provides a range of support, depending on colleagues’ circumstances, including:
- Time off via special leave
- Adjustments made to working arrangements including flexibility in working hours
- Counselling via our Employee Assistance Programme or Private Medical Insurance.
Why did you choose to get involved?
I chose to become a GFA as I am already a Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) and recognised the need for more specialist training. Sadly, bereavement and loss impact us all and it was important to me that I had the skills and confidence to support my colleagues with compassion and understanding.
