Our commitment to ‘a Just Transition’

Environmental stewardship remains one of our key priorities within responsible business. Each year, our EnviroNovember campaign brings this to life; engaging colleagues across the firm and inspiring practical, community focused action. Now in its fifth year, EnviroNovember has grown from a simple suggestion – encouraging individuals to reduce their environmental footprint – into a firmwide movement grounded in awareness, learning and collective responsibility.

In 2025, we broadened the campaign’s focus by adopting ‘a Just Transition’ as our theme. Recognised in the 2015 Paris Agreement, the Just Transition highlights the need to reduce carbon emissions in ways that are fair, inclusive and responsive to social inequalities. In essence, it emphasises the connection between all areas of responsible business.

Throughout our focus on a Just Transition in November, we helped colleagues explore the social dimensions of climate action through talks, workshops and local activities. A standout moment came from award-winning presenter and filmmaker Euella Jackson, who explored how creativity and storytelling can empower communities and drive meaningful change. She described a Just Transition as “a once-in-a-generation opportunity to address social inequality while thinking holistically about climate justice,” emphasising that it is “for and about everyone – not just natural history experts or environmental scientists.”

Euella invited colleagues to imagine the world we want to live and work in, taking “a multipronged approach to change hearts, minds and actions in ways that bring us joy, make us closer to each other, and that are good for the planet too.” Reflecting on the firm’s engagement, she added that it was “an honour to deliver a talk as part of Womble Bond Dickinson’s EnviroNovember… it’s great to see these conversations happening on an organisational level.”

Across the firm, our Environmental Representatives reinforced this message with local volunteering and awareness events, from community litter picks and food bank support to film screenings and discussions. These activities sparked reflection, connection and a renewed sense of collective purpose.

Our environmental progress continues beyond the campaign, as we continue to champion environmental responsibility and social justice in all our endeavours. Collaboration remains central to our approach, engaging with regional and national networks to maximise our impact. We will build on the success of the campaign by facilitating further sessions on a Just Transition and integrating the focus with the volunteering opportunities we seek.
